2011

Location: St. Cloud
Date: Feb 6, 2011
Comments: Dean, Hank, Mike, Terry (Pee-Bow, German for "Beer") and I (going by "Fairview" for this hike) climbed up St. Cloud today. We discovered that the Washougal Timber Trails Association has been busy building trails just west of Archer Mountain. We'll be back, as there is a fabuolous view from the cliffs overlooking the Columbia.

Location: Newton Ridge
Date: Jan 30, 2011
Comments: Blanca, Dean, Jane and I climbed up Newton Ridge today. The route up was a sheet of ice, dangerous and clouded over. Nevertheless, the hike was an adventure to remember, though I would rate it as difficult. There is an old abandoned trail, but it is not on modern maps.

Location: The Eaglecap Extreme Sled Dog Race
Date: Jan 4-9, 2011
Comments: I had the opportunity to work the Ollokot checkpoint in the Eaglecap Extreme Sled Dog Race working ham radio with the communications team. This was easily one of the most exciting things I've been involved in. There were two part to the race: the 100 mile division and the 200 mile division. I worked the 200 mile division from Ollokot, and also from Twin Lakes at the end of the run.

Location: The Polallie-Tamanawas Loop
Date: Nov 21  2010
Comments: A farily large snowshoe group headed out to do the Polallie-Tamanwas Loop trail. Included: Dennis, Martin, Dean, Mike 1, Mike 2, Jane and yours truly. Great hike! Recommended.

Location: Burnt Lake to Cast Lake over Zig Zag Mountain
Date: Nov 14,  2010
Comments: Rex Medlen and I grabbed our snowshoes and headed for Zig Zag Mt via the Burnt Lake trail. Every part of this hike was perfect: weather, snow, wind-conditions, etc. It was one of the more ejoyable hikes we've taken.

Location: Indian Beach Trail from Ecola Park
Date: Oct. 26,  2010
Comments: Dennis and headed to the beach today and hiked the Indian Beach Trail along the bluff overlooking the Pacific. Cloudy, but wild.

Location: Burnt Lake to Cast Lake over Zig Zag Mountain
Date: Oct. 25,  2010
Comments: I took a solo hike to Cast Lake today from the Burnt Lake Trailhead. Clear skies! Wonderful day in the wilderness.

Location: Buck Mountain
Date: Oct. 21,  2010
Comments: Dennis and I climbed up Buck Peak, a 13 mile round trip from Lost Lake. The trail borders the Bull Run Reservoir restricted access area, as this is Portland's water source for the city.

Location: Mt Hood Search and Rescue Conference
Date: Oct. 15-17,  2010
Comments: The SAR conference this year was held at Welches. We managed to get out to watch the sunrise at Mirror Lake and along the Old Salmon River Trail, and one short trip up the Ramona Falls Creek trail. Nice weekend. Great training.
