Photo: Mushrooms in the Indian Heaven Wilderness. I call them "Winter's Wildflowers," though I know that is not very accurate.
"Someone needs to do the dirty work," explained Fungi. "That would be us." (Composting, 0408, 2010)
Grass Widow
Photo: Grass Widow in the uplands of Catherine Creek.
"There are many widows here," replied Catherine. "It's amazing what a little love does for one's countenance." (Physicians of the Heart, 0331, 2010)
Glacier Lilies
Photo: Small bouquet of Glacier Lilies at Tom McCall Point.
"There's enough Water for everyone," explained Lily, "so I'm grabbing all I can!" (Fill My Cup, Please! 0329, 2010)
Grass Widow
Photo: Grass Widow in Major Canyon. For some reason I really like looking at this photo.
"Take a good look at yourself," said the Major, "because the big picture is rarely clear." (Introspection, 0330, 2010)
Toothwarts (Common name: Purple Delights)
Photo: One of the "darlings of the forest" this time of year is the beautiful Toothwart wildflower, known among locals as a Purple Delight. I found these along the Hardy Ridge trail, just west of Hamilton Mountain.
"The world is packed with clues," explained Hardy. "Anyone can follow the evidence if they want to." (Origins, 0325. 2010)
Saxifrage
Photo: Saxifrage wildflower at Major Canyon. This bloom is very tiny! I took the photo with a super-macro magnifying lens, which explains why some of it is out of focus. It is about the size of the letter "O."
"One is not more amazing than the other!" The Major replied. (Galaxies and Wildflowers, 0326, 2010)
Hibiscus
Photo: Hibiscus in bloom at brisas del mar. I found this little wonder early in the morning on the way to Madera beach.
"Not every flower gets to bloom," said Madera. "We are really trying to change that!" (The Purpose of Being, 0319, 2010)
