American Egret

Photo: American Egret, Madera Beach in Zihuataneo, Guerrero, Mexico. The egret is in my top 10 "Favorite Birds" list. I met this pretty lady while kayaking the shorelines.

"I've been watching you all day, and I know what you're like," said the Great Egret. "Now you must learn what I'm like." (Wedding Proposals, 0226; 2010)

Brown Pelicans

Photo: Clarification -- The way I wrote that last email made it sound like the pelican in the photo was the same pelican I found with the broken neck while paddling south of Ixtapa. Not so! You are looking at a live bird!

"Everyone is beautiful in their own way," Peli told Madera. "Watch me and you'll learn what I mean!" (Primary Feathers, 0303, 2010)

Brown Pelican

Photo: The Brown Pelican of North America usually plunge-dives for fish!  You've got to see it to appreciate the skill. I found one with a broken neck while kayaking the coastline between Zihuataneo and Ixtapa that apparently hit a submerged rock!  White Pelicans (I saw some of these in the mountain range between Guerro and Michoacan) and Peruvian and Australian Pelicans don't normally hunt this way.

"I am perfectly designed for what I'm expected to do," explained Ixtapa. (Finding Your Niche, 0303, 2010)

American Egret

Photo: American Egret on Madera Beach, Zihuataneo, Guerra (Mexico).

"I like you too," said Madera, "but you must learn how to dance!" (Master Choreographer, 0302,2010)
